# Use trade partner feedback without misleading buyers

A trade partner can tell you whether the plans reached them before rough-in, whether the site was ready, how change orders were communicated and how draws got paid. That is operating feedback, not a buyer review. Label the relationship wherever it appears. Keep disputes private. Never ask a sub to prop up a customer-facing rating.

## What can a trade partner fairly review?

A trade partner sees you from the working side of the schedule. They can speak to plan availability, site readiness, change communication, inspection coordination, draw paperwork and how punch items reach the right crew. That matters to future trades and, in a few contexts, helps buyers see how you run a job.

It does not replace the buyer's view. A framing crew cannot review selections communication with the homeowner. A supplier cannot speak to warranty follow-through unless it did that work. Label the relationship so readers can judge the context.

The other [reviews and reputation articles](/articles/reviews-and-reputation/) separate buyer requests, trade feedback, case studies and response work.

## Should builders ask trades to post public reviews?

Do not use subs, suppliers or employees to manufacture customer approval. Before you ask for public feedback, check participation and disclosure rules in the platform's own help center. If participation is allowed, label the business relationship. Never tell a trade which rating to pick, hand them a script or let them post from several accounts.

Before any request, decide the audience and the destination. Feedback for your trade recruitment page does a different job from a customer-facing [Google Business Profile](/glossary/google-business-profile/). The [review policy compliance article](/articles/reviews-and-reputation/review-policy-compliance/) shows how to verify the live platform rules instead of assuming an insider review is permitted.

| Feedback use | Appropriate subject | Required boundary |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Private operating review | Plans, access, sequence, changes and closeout | Keep project and payment details in internal systems |
| Trade recruitment page | What it is like to work with the builder | Identify the trade relationship and obtain permission |
| Project case study | Coordination on a specific technical challenge | Verify facts and permissions from all relevant parties |
| Public review profile | Only content allowed by the current platform | Disclose the relationship and never imply buyer status |

## How should a builder collect useful trade feedback?

Ask after a real work package or project phase closes. Make the private operating review standard across key trades, not a favor asked of friendly crews the week before Parade.

1. Identify the completed scope and the lead contact for that trade.

2. Ask what information arrived late or unclear.

3. Check whether plans, selections and changes matched field direction.

4. Ask what created return trips, waiting or avoidable punch work.

5. Confirm how invoice, draw and completion documentation moved.

6. Assign operating changes before selecting any quote for publication.

7. Request written permission and relationship disclosure for approved reuse.

Specific questions get useful answers. “How was working with us?” invites courtesy. “Did the current reflected ceiling plan reach you before rough-in?” tells you whether the document [handoff](/process/handoff/) worked.

## What if a trade posts a critical public review?

Do not argue payment, scope, backcharges, safety, personnel or site conditions in public. Save the review, identify the project and route the issue to the operating and administrative owners. Check the subcontract, the approved changes, the daily logs, the completion notes and the payment file.

The public reply names the relationship only when that is accurate and safe, acknowledges the concern and gives a direct business channel. Do not reveal a homeowner, an address or a project dispute. Do not rally other trades to bury the review in praise.

Use the fact-checking sequence in [responding to negative builder reviews](/articles/reviews-and-reputation/responding-to-negative-builder-reviews/) with trade records in place of buyer records. If the criticism exposes a repeated coordination failure, fix the operating step before you treat it as a reputation problem.

## How do you label trade feedback before it reaches the website?

Keep a separate publication record for trade feedback. State the role, the work package and the phase the speaker saw. Label the comment as trade partner feedback wherever it appears. Keep confidential terms and private project information out. Confirm wording and permission with the trade contact before the site editor gets it.

Check the heading, the caption and the attribution together. A coordination comment does not belong under a homeowner-satisfaction heading or beside an unrelated buyer photo. The article on [turning reviews into case studies](/articles/reviews-and-reputation/turning-reviews-into-case-studies/) covers fact verification and reuse. A published statement keeps enough context for a reader to know which role the speaker held.

Review the built page. Headings, captions and nearby buyer quotes must not blur the trade relationship or turn a coordination comment into a claim about the homeowner's experience.

The [Operating profile stage](/process/operating-profile/) documents how plans, changes, draws and field handoffs work. The [build process guide](/guides/writing-down-your-build-process/) turns that verified operation into buyer-facing explanations.

Our agents organize interview notes, compare feedback with approved process documents and draft a case study. People verify the field facts, secure permission and approve every published claim.

## Questions about trade partner reviews

### Are subcontractor reviews the same as customer reviews?

Subcontractor feedback describes a business relationship with the builder, rather than a homebuyer experience. Label the trade role and keep it separate from customer reviews.

### Can we ask a supplier for a testimonial?

A supplier testimonial should cover the supplier's direct experience. Confirm permission, label the relationship and check destination rules before publishing or requesting a public review.

### Should a trade dispute receive a public response?

A public response to a trade dispute should be brief and verified. Move scope, payment and project details into the established private business channel.

### Can trade feedback appear in a project case study?

Trade feedback can support a project case study after fact and permission checks. Label the trade role and protect buyer, project and contract information.
